Summer Swim

Since we're on the topic of sports- my boys are knee deep (literally) in summer swim team. Their team is fantastic and I highly recommend a summer swim team to teach your kids how to swim properly. My oldest can swim all strokes now, at 8 years old: butterfly, back, breast and freestyle. This is something he will take with him the rest of his life. My younger son, 5 years old is on the swim team too, but is simply taking lessons, he doesn't compete yet.

Sports are a huge part of our lives and there are ups and downs. Please share your experiences with me. I'd love to hear your positive and negative sports stories.

Navigating through youth sports

Welcome to my blog! Yesterday I appeared on WFMZ's Sunrise Show with Eve Tannery. We talked about how to navigate through youth sports. When I started in youth sports with my older son, I had no idea what to do, what was expected and why getting involved was so important.

Here is a link to the interview: http://www.wfmz.com/sunrise/28520225/detail.html

One thing that Eve and I didn't get a chance to talk about on-air was your behavior, as the parent, and how it affects how your child will act. Here are my notes on that:

How will your behavior affect your child? You may start the season all gung-ho, until something goes wrong. It may be a small issue or it may be a disciplinary issue you weren’t expecting. My advice: don’t do or say anything to anyone that you wouldn’t do or say in front of your child. By setting the behavior example, your child will also know how to act. If you start screaming at the coach in the middle of the game, guess who will surely be doing the same?

I can't wait to share more with you- check back often!
